
Stop the Burn-outs: A Better Way to Handle SIG Blomax Heater Tubes
If you’re running a SIG Blomax line and your tubes keep burning out, you know exactly how frustrating it is. It’s not just about the cost of a new part. It’s the downtime. The headache. The feeling that you’re just waiting for the next one to pop. Usually, this happens because of thermal stress or a bad fit. When those lamps fail too early, it’s almost always because the hardware can’t handle the heat swings. The real problem with the heat To get PET preforms right, you need a very specific kind of infrared energy. If the heat isn’t perfectly even, or if the quartz tube is a bit too thin, the glass expands and contracts until it simply cracks. It’s basic physics, but it’s a nightmare for your production schedule. That’s why we changed how we build our replacement modules. We used reinforced quartz envelopes that can actually take the punch of those rapid temperature jumps. Why “standard” parts aren’t cutting it Most OEM-style lamps are fine for a while, but they often lack the muscle needed for a high-speed floor. They just aren’t rigid enough. We decided to beef up the internal supports and the connection points. By tightening the filament tension and strengthening the end-cap seals, we’ve cut down on the vibration-induced failures that usually plague high-output lines. And the best part? They’re drop-in replacements. You don’t have to mess with your PLC settings or rewire your cabinets. They just fit. A couple of things to keep in mind Because we made the quartz walls a bit thicker and stronger, the heat transfer might feel a little different at first. You might need to nudge your power settings up or down by about 2-5% when you first start up to hit your target temperature. It’s a quick tweak. One last thing: check your cooling blowers. If they’re clogged with dust, no amount of reinforced glass will save your lamps from overheating. Keep the air moving, and these modules will last a lot longer.
