
Why “Waterproof” Isn’t Enough for Bathroom Heaters
Putting an infrared heater in a bathroom is a bit of a battle. You’ve got thick steam, constant humidity, and the occasional direct spray of water. To get an IPX5 rating, the housing has to keep those water jets out of the electrics. But here’s the catch: a seal that works perfectly on day one can easily fail after six months. Why? Because heat makes things move. The housing expands when it’s on and shrinks when it’s off. That constant “breathing” eventually wears seals down.
We try to break them first
We don’t just spray the unit once and call it a day. That’s too easy. Instead, we put every batch through “damp-heat aging.” Basically, we torture the heaters. We cycle them between scorching heat and heavy humidity to mimic years of use in a steamy shower. We want to see if those gaskets and adhesives can actually handle the stress. If a seal is weak, moisture crawls in. Once water hits the high-voltage terminals, you’re looking at arcing or a total burnout. If the unit can’t hold its IPX5 rating after this beating, it’s a failure. We scrap the design and start over.
The struggle with intense heat
Shortwave infrared lamps feel great—they give you that instant warmth everyone wants—but they get incredibly hot in one spot. That kind of heat can warp plastic or turn rubber seals into mush over time. To stop that from happening, we use high-temp silicones and reinforced polymers. It keeps the waterproof barrier from cracking or melting under the pressure. Just a heads-up, though: IPX5 is for sprays, not swimming. If you’re planning to dunk these in water or use a high-pressure steam cleaner on them, these aren’t the tools for the job.

We do all this heavy lifting so you don’t have to deal with annoying callbacks. There’s nothing worse than a heater that passes a basic factory test but dies three months after installation. By stressing the materials on our floor, we make sure the electrical isolation actually lasts for the life of the product. You install it, it works, and you don’t have to think about it again.
