Let’s be honest: those old-school bathroom heat lamps are kind of a joke. Most of them are just basic quartz tubes with almost zero protection. Here is the thing about steam. It doesn’t just sit there; it finds its way inside the heater housing. Once it hits the electrical terminals or the filaments, things start to corrode or short circuit. High-waterproof units fix this with sealed gaskets and enclosures that actually keep the humidity out. It’s the difference between a heater that dies in six months and one that actually lasts.

Most of the new gear uses shortwave infrared. Now, these aren’t like those old convection heaters that try to warm up all the air in the room—which is pointless if you have a loud ventilation fan sucking all the warmth away. Instead, these hit your skin and the surfaces around you directly. It’s instant. You flip the switch, and you feel it immediately. No standing around shivering while the room slowly warms up.
The “catch” (and how to do it right)
It isn’t all plug-and-play, though. If you’re installing high-wattage arrays, you can’t just jam them into a standard outlet. You’ll need a dedicated circuit. Also, you have to be careful with where you put them. These things put out some serious heat. If you mount them too low, you’re going to create “hot spots” or, worse, damage your ceiling. We usually suggest keeping them at least 2.2 meters up. It gives the heat room to spread out safely. And yeah, they cost more upfront. But think about it this way: would you rather spend a bit more now, or spend your weekend every two years ripping out a dead lamp and installing a new one?
